/ It seems that Monero is successfully being 51%-attacked. It's one of the last PoW holdouts among major networks. A big impetus for Tezos, as a friend once observed, was “fuck you, PoS works.”
/ It's easy to forget now, but even as late as 2016, the consensus remained that PoS was impossible at worst, and had much weaker security than PoW at best.
/ From a distance Monero seems pretty decentralized, there's no one in charge, but there's also no formal governance process. This would make coordinating a fork to PoS hard.
/ PoW is also likely to be a strong meme in that community. Perhaps they'll merge mine with litecoin instead? I wish Monero the best, one of the few coins out there with meaningful pmf, although the privacy claims are questionable.
/ All that's to say: the constant stream of dumb arguments around PoW on the Internet felt like nails on a chalkboard for years. You still hear it from time to time, but it's grown fainter and fainter.
